Summer Adventure Package

While Vail is known internationally as a world-class ski destination, many winter visitors also join us in the summer to take advantage of the numerous activities that the Rocky Mountains can offer to the off-season visitor. When the snow melts and the wildflowers make their first appearance, the Vail Valley transforms from a ski destination to a veritable playground for visitors of all ages. As in the winter season, some people visit Vail to relax and escape their daily routine, while others come to challenge themselves physically and mentally in the great outdoors. For those of us who identify with the latter category, take a look below at some of the outdoor adventures that Peak Properties can arrange for your summer vacation to the Valley.

Whitewater Rafting: Guests who visited Vail this winter may remember the nearly unceasing torrent of snow that deluged the Vail area this ski season. For those who missed out, come and ride in a different way, experience the moisture in its current manifestation in the swollen and raging waters of the Colorado and Eagle Rivers. Rafting is one of the more unique and adventurous activities the Vail Valley has to offer, with local outfitters guiding all levels of rafters through Colorado’s most challenging whitewater.

Downhill Mountain Biking: For those of you familiar with the convenience of ski lifts, you will be glad to hear that during the summer months Vail Resorts fires them up once again for the downhill biking enthusiasts. Let the chair lift do the working while you ascend Vail Mountain for some of the most exhilarating downhill biking around. Keep a tight handle on your brakes though, this technical thrill ride is not for the faint of heart!

Jeep/Hummer Tours: One of the best ways (and often times the only way) to visit the farther reaches of the Rockies is by way of 4 Wheel Drive vehicle. Pile into a Jeep Wrangler or hop into an open air Hummer and let Lakota Guides show you the beauty of the country. Along the way, the guide will clue you in to a bit of Western history and local knowledge to better acquaint you with your surroundings.

ATV Tours: While a Jeep tour will get you off of I-70 and into Colorado’s less developed areas, some of the more remote regions can be better explored from behind the handle bars of an All-Terrain Vehicle. Nova Guides provides rentals to those visitors interested in setting off on their own for a little motorized tour of Vail. Head to the top of Vail Pass to experience high-alpine beauty of a different sort, motoring along side the wildflower fields that dot the towering peaks of the West.

Rock Climbing: Quite possibly the most physically challenging activity popular in Vail, rock climbing will test the limits of your strength and challenge your creative ability to pick the perfect line. With a dizzying array of different routes popular with local climbers, Vail can offer the perfect environment for climbers of all ages and ability levels, and the expert guides at Vail Rock and Ice Guides can provide all the equipment, training, and know-how to customize your climbing adventure, year round.

Hiking: To attempt to list all of the trails of all different ability levels that the Eagle Valley boasts would be an exercise in futility. Suffice to say that whatever you are looking for in a hike, from a stroll down the bike path to a trek to the majesty of a high-alpine lake, Vail will exceed your expectations of tranquility and beauty as soon as you step off of the concrete and into the wilderness. Have a member of Peak Properties leave a copy of the famous Vail Hiker, the definitive guide to the best trails that wind through the valley, and walk out the back door of our luxury rental collection and into the wild.

Horseback Riding: A true legacy of the Wild West, horseback riding is a popular activity among visitors to the Vail Valley. Saddle up and hit the trail with the experts from Beaver Creek Stables for a trot up to Beaver Lake for a picnic, or line up a trip to Piney River Ranch to spend a day among the peaks of Vail’s Gore Range. Various stables throughout the Valley compete to offer the most scenic rides, so let our staff coordinate your equestrian adventure.

Golf: One of the only ways to get my father to travel out West is to lure him with the beauty of the golf courses here in Colorado. Or maybe it’s just the way his drive carries in the thin air… Either way, come out and set up a tee time at any of the public courses throughout the Valley. The Vail Golf Course in East Vail sits in the shadow of the imposing Gore Range and offers a challenging course even without the distraction of the view, or head down valley to Eagle Ranch, an Arnold Palmer Signature Designed course to challenge even the most savvy golfers. Lucky guests may be able to squeeze in a last-minute tee time at the famous courses of Red Sky Ranch or Cordillera.

Fly Fishing: Vail boasts enough world-class fly fishing waters to keep any angling enthusiast busy for a lifetime, including the Gold Medal waters of the Gore Creek that run directly through the Vail Village. Spend a tranquil day in the cool rushing waters of the Eagle Valley with Fly Fishing Outfitters of Avon, recently awarded the Orvis Outfitter of the Year for their outstanding service and knowledge of local streams. Guided trips can be arranged to acquaint our guests with the local waters and beyond, providing the experience and equipment necessary for a quality outdoor adventure.

Hot-Air Ballooning: Technically a year round activity, the warmer autumn air and the changing aspen leaves make the fall the optimum time to view the Rocky Mountains from an angle that few can enjoy: a bird’s eye view. The beauty of the mountain landscape comes into sharp focus when you peer across the local ski resorts and up toward the snow dusted peaks of some of Colorado’s highest summits. Come along with Merlin, local ballooning expert and president of Camelot Balloons, to experience a side of Colorado that few people have the luxury of enjoying.

Hunting: While hunting is restricted according to seasonality, Colorado boasts some of the finest trophy hunting in the lower 48. Small Game hunting in the area provides ample opportunity to hunt grouse, pheasant, ptarmigan, quail, and hare, among others, on a year-round basis. For those visitors seeking a bit more adventure, big game licenses can be secured in advance to hunt some of the Rockies’ larger game, including the famous Elk migration in the autumn.

Skiing: For those of you who can never get enough, come out and see us in the shoulder seasons, when Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area compete to be the first resort to open and the last to close for the summer. With a ski season stretching from October 10th to June 8th this season, the warmer weather alsways brings out the die-hard snow riders for spring festivals and soft late-season slush well after Vail has closed the lifts down for the summer.
